Gutters are one of those things not many people give a second thought to.  They are usually already installed on a home, there are no decisions to be made about them. Other than having a Marlboro gutter cleaning company like TDM Construction come out twice yearly to give them a thorough cleaning, they require little maintenance. Gutters are an extremely important part of any home though. They provide protection and security against water damage, flooding, and soil erosion.  Aside from the material they are made from, there are a variety of shapes that gutters can come in also. Whether you are building a home from scratch or are ready to replace the aging gutters on your home, be sure to research all your options.

K-style Gutter

This is one of, if not the most, popular style of gutter.  This is proven by the name itself.  It is a common misunderstanding that the name of this style gutter comes from its shape.  However, it is not named after the shape.  Instead, it is named K-style because it is listed as option “k” with a national association.  This is a decorative style of gutter.  Many people like it due to its likeness to crown molding.  It adds a nice finishing touch to a home’s exterior.  In addition to its looks, these gutters are very effective. This shape is able to transport larger amounts of water in comparison to rounded gutters.  If you live in an area where it rains a lot, K-style gutters are a great choice. They also come in a variety of materials, colors, and finishes.  This makes them very versatile and popular with builders.

Half Round Gutter

While less decorative than the k-style gutter, a half round gutter adds a certain look to a home.  They are perfectly suited for many environments.  When homeowners select a half round style gutter, it is usually for the aesthetic.  Vinyl and plastic are common materials used to make this gutter type. In addition, there is also a European style of half round gutter. This option gives you a more decorative front for those looking for extra detail. These gutters are often made of a higher-end material like copper. The Marlboro gutter cleaning crew we spoke with said they don’t see this style very often.

There is also a quarter round style of gutters.  Very similar to the half round, but with a flat back portion rather than rounded. The front facing portion of the gutter does look very much the same as a half round option.

Box Gutter

Another rare style of gutter is the box style. This version is indeed named after the shape of the gutter itself. This style gutter holds the largest capacity of water.  Typically, box gutters are made of wood covered in a thin sheet of metal. They are not a popular style of gutter any longer and are most commonly seen on historic buildings. They held great appeal because they are built into the roof overhang.  This makes them virtually invisible as they blend in with the home unlike other styles of gutters.  Because they are constructed of wood, they do require extra care.  This is another reason they are not as popular anymore.  Any standing water in a box style gutter system can lead to leaks and therefore costly repairs.

Fascia Gutter

This style gutter is custom made only.  They are made specifically for the building they are being installed on.  One benefit of these gutters is that there are no seams along the length of the gutter. This makes them very strong. It also reduces the possibility of leaks or areas of weakness in the gutter. One of the biggest drawbacks of custom fascia gutters is price.  Because of the specificity required, the installation must be done by professionals.  On the plus side, Marlboro gutter cleaning is easier to accomplish on this seamless style.

Marlboro Gutter Cleaning Frequency Depends on Environment

While certain types of gutters may involve a bit more care during cleaning, the factor that really determines the frequency is your environment.  Whether you have a lot of trees on your property, how close those trees are to your home, and even things like wind affect the need for gutter cleaning in Marlboro.  They type of trees can great effect how often you need to clear out your gutters.  Pine needles for example can accumulate rather quickly and cause blockages before you know it.  If you have some pine trees on your property it is best to check your gutters as often as every three months.

If you live in a very cold environment, it is extremely important to make sure there is no standing water in your gutters.  The reason is that when this water freezes, gutter damage is right around the corner. The weight of ice can begin to pull gutters away from the building.  Plus, ice can easily block downspouts causing overflow issues in your gutters.

Marlboro Gutter Cleaning is Necessary No Matter What

No matter the style, the material, or your environment, your gutters need to be cleaned.  Even with the addition of a guard on your gutters, debris can still get into the gutters that requires removal. While products do help cut down on clutter in your gutters significantly, a commonly held belief is that with them, you don’t ever need to clean your gutters. This can be a costly misconception.  You should schedule a Marlboro gutter cleaning company to clean your gutters two times a year at minimum.  If you have a lot of trees on your property or are noticing any evidence of your gutters being blocked, you should clean out your gutters more often.
